Dr. Lynne Steinbach, MD, is a Professor of Clinical Radiology and Orthopaedic Surgery, and she is one of the country’s top radiologists in sports imaging. Dr. Steinbach earned her bachelor's degree in Human Biology at Stanford University followed by a medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1979. She completed her residency in Diagnostic Radiology from the New York Hospital, Cornell University, followed by a fellowship in Musculoskeletal Radiology from the Hospital for Special Surgery, Cornell University, New York.

A former Chief of Musculoskeletal Imaging at UCSF and now Musculoskeletal Imaging Fellowship director, Dr. Steinbach’s current research focuses on various aspects of musculoskeletal MR imaging. Current projects include research in the areas of MR arthrography, shoulder and elbow MR imaging, MR neurography on MRI including evaluation of the ulnar nerve, and evaluation of sciatica at the hamstring level, correlation of clinical findings of ACL reconstruction with MRI, rotator cuff evaluation on MRI including fatty infiltration of the rotator cuff muscles, and the postoperative shoulder.

Dr. Steinbach is a fellow of the American College of Radiology. Offices held in other organizations have included President of the American Association for Women Radiologists and of the San Francisco Radiological Society, Nominating Chair for the International Society of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Chair of the Education Committee for the Society of Skeletal Radiology, and Membership Chair of both the Society of Skeletal Radiology and the International Skeletal Society.
