Josep Malvehy Guilera MD

Dr. Josep Malvehy graduated in 1992 from the Medicine University of Barcelona in Spain and obtained his diploma in Dermatology and Venereology in 1996 and the doctoral degree of the University of Barcelona in genetics and diagnostics of skin cancer in 2006. He is a consultant dermatologist at the Dermatology Department and director of the Melanoma Unit at the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona since 2003.

He is a professor at the University of Barcelona, medical department. He is the leader of the “Technology group” of the International SkinImaging Collaboration Group and consultant of the Technical Committee of the Asociación Española contra el Cáncer. He is the principal investigator and member of DIAGNOSTICS a European consortium working in new photonic technology for diagnosis.

The main field of expertise is skin tumors with the main interest in the diagnosis and treatment of malignant neoplasms of the skin (melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer). He is an investigator of the IDIBAPS (August Pi I Sunyer Research Institute). Special areas of research and innovation are non-invasive techniques of skin cancer diagnosis (dermoscopy, digital follow-up, Confocal Microscopy, OCT, HD-OCT, impedanciometry, spectroscopy), genetics of melanoma, skin cancer susceptibility, skin carcinogenesis, teledermatology, and social networking in medicine.
