Dr. H. Clifton Simmons III received his D.D.S. degree in 1977 from the University of Tennessee, College of Dentistry. He is currently an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine teaching in the graduate Orthodontic Residency Program.

He has held this appointment for 19 years. He is also an assistant professor at the University of Tennessee, College of Dentistry and teaches the senior dental students diagnosis and treatment of temporomandibular disorders. He has a private practice in Nashville, Tennessee, which is 85% diagnosis and treatment of craniofacial pain and TM disorders and 15% general dentistry.

Dr. Simmons is a Diplomate of the American Board of Craniofacial Pain, the American Board of Orofacial Pain and the immediate past-president of the American Board of Craniofacial Pain. Dr. Simmons is a Fellow of the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists, the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain, the American Academy of Orofacial Pain, the Tennessee Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the Pierre Fauchard Academy and the Academy of Dentistry International. He is a past president and past editor of publications for the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain.
