Gordon Mclennan MD

Gordon McLennan, Professor at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Educators for dedication, achievements, and leadership in radiology, vascular surgery, and nephrology. After initially obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in natural sciences in 1988 from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Dr. McLennan continued his education with a Doctor of Medicine in 1993 from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. After completing his fellowship at Indiana University, he remained on the faculty as the director of Interventional Radiology research from 2000 to 2008. He subsequently relocated his laboratory from Indiana to the Cleveland Clinic in 2008, with which he excelled as a professor of radiology and biomedical engineering until 2020. During his time at the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. McLennan developed a multidisciplinary program with vascular surgery and nephrology departments for the implementation of Endo AFV creation in inpatients who receive tunneled catheters as primary access.

Dr. McLennan has provided superior education as the David Kumpe professor of radiology, section chief of interventional radiology, and vice-chairman of clinical research since 2020. Over the course of his career, he has received over $3,000,000 in extramural funding and has published 60 peer-reviewed articles and 95 abstracts in addition to over 40 invited lectures. He has served the interventional radiology community as chairman of the Society of Interventional Radiology Foundation, with which he helped raise $6.5 Million to support interventional radiology research and he was the recipient of the SIR Foundation Philanthropist of the Year Award in 2016.

Dr. McLennan has maintained his affiliation with the Society of Interventional Radiology, for which he was appointed as the chairman from 2010 to 2012, the Society of Interventional Radiology from 2012 to 2020, the Renal and Neurological Specialty Council, the Radiologic Society of North America and a member of the board of directors of Renal Network and Strategies from 2004 to 2015. As career highlights, he cites his reorganization of the board of directors of the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology Research and Education Foundation. He worked closely with the executive director of the aforementioned foundation to try to transform the way that the board functions. In addition, he transformed the educational training program in interventional radiology at the Cleveland Clinic, where he accepted a position as the fellowship director at a low point of the program and was there for the transition from a one-year fellowship to a six-year residency program in 2020.
