Daniel C. West MD

Dr. Daniel C. West is a pediatric hematologist and oncologist who treats children with cancer; in particular, those with bone sarcomas and blood disorders. In his research, he studies bone sarcomas, especially Ewing sarcoma, and addresses research issues regarding medical education and measurement, and the relationship between educational outcomes and clinical outcomes.

West completed medical school at the University of Florida in 1986 and a residency at UCSF in 1989. In 1992, he completed fellowships at Children's Hospital and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, both in Boston, and Harvard Medical School. He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Medical Association, Western Society for Pediatric Research and American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.

He also was appointed to the Pediatric Review Committee of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. Prior to joining UCSF, he was a professor of pediatrics at the University of California, Davis, where he earned the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Faculty Excellence. He is a professor of pediatrics at UCSF, vice chair of Graduate Medical Education and director of the Pediatric Residency Training Program.
