Catherine (Carrie) Therese Frenette is the Associate Director of the SC Liver Research Consortium, LLC. Dr. Frenette underwent medical training at Rush Medical College in Chicago, IL. She then completed internal medicine training at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego, CA, and subsequently underwent training in gastroenterology with a focus on transplant hepatology at Scripps Clinic in La Jolla, CA. Dr. Frenette has served as Medical Director of Liver Transplant at the Scripps Center for Organ Transplant, Scripps Green Hospital, La Jolla, CA, and the Medical Director of the Liver and Hepatocellular Cancer Program at the Scripps MD Anderson Cancer Center. In 2022, Dr. Frenette decided to focus on medical education and research and joined SCLRC to further its mission of advanced research and streamlined and timely continuing medical education. She also has been the Principal or Co-Investigator for multiple clinical trials related to liver disease and liver cancer. 

Dr. Frenette continues to be involved in the training of medical residents and gastroenterology and hepatology fellows throughout the Southern California area and focuses her care on underserved populations. She has published over 75 peer-reviewed articles and presented numerous abstracts at national and international meetings. Her areas of expertise are liver cancer, liver transplantation, complications of cirrhosis, alcoholic and metabolic fatty liver disease, autoimmune liver disease, and viral hepatitis. Dr. Frenette has also served the community through the American Liver Foundation as part of the National Executive Committee and was a founding member and Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee for the Liver Coalition of San Diego, where she now serves as Vice President of the Board of Directors. She has been awarded Fellow status by the American Society of Transplantation, the American Gastroenterology Association, and the American Association of the Study of Liver Diseases. She serves on national committees for the United Network of Organ Sharing as well as the American Society of Transplantation.
