Dr. Crist is a tenured Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and has been at the University of Missouri (MU) in Columbia. After obtaining a bachelor's degree from Tabor College in Hillsboro, KS, Dr. Crist earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He completed his residency at the University of Kansas School of Medicine, Wichita, followed by a fellowship in orthopedic trauma at the University of California-Davis. Dr. Crist serves as the department’s vice chairman of business development and he also directs both the MU Orthopaedic Trauma Service and the MU Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship. He specializes in orthopedic trauma/fracture care, hip and pelvis reconstruction including total hip arthroplasty, and young adult hip disorders/hip preservation. He is one of the four surgeons in the Mizzou BioJoint Center, which offers unique treatments for biological solutions to the knee, hip, shoulder, ankle, and other joint problems.

Brett Crist has research interests in anterior total hip arthroplasty, fracture care, geriatric medicine, protein analysis of bone graft waste materials, and hip and ankle joint preservation procedures. He is the author of more than 90 peer-reviewed journal articles. He is an active member of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association and AO Trauma and has leadership roles in both organizations. One of his professional passions is teaching orthopedic trauma techniques at national and international symposiums and courses.
