Dr. Anthony S. Unger is the medical director for the Gildenhorn Institute for Bone and Joint Health and an orthopedic surgeon at Sibley Memorial Hospital. He is board-certified and practices out of Washington Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, located in Sibley Memorial Hospital’s Medical Building and Chevy Chase, MD. Dr. Unger is also currently a co-director of the Johns Hopkins Community Joint Program, a co-director of the orthopedic section at The Georgetown University Hemophiliac Center and a director of the Washington Center for Hip and Knee Surgery.

Dr. Unger has recognized expertise in total joint replacement and minimally invasive surgery. He regularly lectures and teaches about these techniques to both national and international physicians. Dr. Unger is also an expertise in anterior hip replacement surgery, which draws both national and international patients.

Dr. Unger earned his undergraduate degree from State University of New York (SUNY) at Stony Brook and his medical degree from SUNY at Buffalo. He completed an internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, as well as an orthopedic research fellowship. Dr. Unger also completed a comprehensive arthritis fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Dr. Unger was previously an associate clinical professor of orthopedics at Georgetown University Medical Center and a clinical professor of orthopedics at George Washington University Medical Center.
