Professor Andrew Boulton Qualified from Newcastle 1976. His postgraduate training was in Newcastle, Sheffield, and Miami. He Appointed as a professor of medicine at the University of Manchester and a consultant physician at Manchester Royal Infirmary in the United Kingdom and a visiting professor of medicine at the University of Miami (Florida) School of Medicine in the United States.
Dr. Boulton has received research funding from the National Institutes of Health, the British Diabetes Association, the European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes (EFSD), and the Wellcome Trust. He chaired the American Diabetes Association (ADA) working groups that published the 2017 position statement on Diabetic Neuropathy and the 2008 Comprehensive Diabetic Foot Exam. Dr. Boulton is president of the Worldwide Initiative for Diabetes Education. He is an associate editor of Diabetes Care and a past editor of Diabetic Medicine.
He is a past president of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) and EFSD, was the founding chair of the EASD Diabetic Foot Study Group, and was EASD’s director of international postgraduate education. Dr. Boulton received the first International Diabetic Foot Award in 1995, the Edward James Olmos Award for advocacy in amputations prevention in 2005, and the ADA Harold Rifkin Award for distinguished international service in the field of diabetes in 2008.
