The DGP is the scientific specialist society in pathology and promotes medical concerns in the endeavor to serve the research and defense against diseases. In addition, it further develops pathology in its central importance for the whole of medicine. The DGP organizes interdisciplinary conferences and provides information on the latest findings from the theory and practice of pathology. With over 1,000 members, it offers a platform for orientation and scientific exchange in the currently 15 working groups. The association journal DER PATHOLOGE is published every two months by Springer-Verlag, Heidelberg.

The DGP also takes a stand: in position papers or memoranda on current topics or in the context of press conferences on the occasion of its traditional annual convention with regularly more than 700 participants. This involves academic training in pathology, the assessment and assessment of new methods of analysis or quality assurance in pathological diagnostics.
