OVERVIEW

The Evolving Landscape of ALK Inhibitors in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer: Opportunities for Pharmacists to Optimize Treatment Selection is organized by Pharmacy Times Continuing Education (PTCE). This Conference has been approved for a maximum of 2.0 contact hours.

Release date: September 12, 2019
Expiration date: September 12, 2020

Target audience:
Pharmacists

Course Description:
Globally, lung cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in both sexes combined. The development of targeted therapies has proven to be more effective and better tolerated than previously used chemotherapy regimens for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with up to 69% of patients having an important driver mutation. ALK rearrangements in advanced NSCLC contribute to up to 7% of cases. The treatment of ALK-positive advanced NSCLC has evolved rapidly over the past decade with the development of ALK inhibitors, and use of these agents has almost doubled the progression-free survival of patients with ALK rearrangement-positive NSCLC. With 5 ALK inhibitors currently approved by the FDA, the selection of the inhibitor goes beyond efficacy due to the complex management of adverse effects and adherence in patients self-administering these medications. This activity also addresses the role of pharmacists in counseling patients on adverse effect management to improve outcomes.

Educational Objectives:
At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
• Examine the pathway to anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) therapy resistance mutations in selection of an appropriate ALK inhibitor
• Analyze appropriate ALK inhibitor options based on clinical efficacy and safety data
• Identify key patient counseling points for optimizing outcomes with ALK inhibito

Additional details will be posted ass soon as information is available.
