Program Overview:
Existing and future diabetes self-management education and support (DSMES) programs can play a vital role in the field of diabetes prevention. Diabetes educators possess an in-depth knowledge of not only the pathophysiology of diabetes, but are also skilled at patient communication, counseling, and motivation. However, these skills are often underutilized when serving a substantial number of individuals that are at risk for diabetes. The American Association of Diabetes Educators’ (AADE’s) model of implementation of the National Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) through nationally certified DSMES programs assessed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC’s) Diabetes Prevention Recognition Program (DPRP) recognition standards seeks to engage and support these diabetes educators, who serve and care for substantial numbers of individuals with and at risk for diabetes.

This first half of this 60-minute webinar will provide an in-depth overview of AADE's DPP Model, with references to the report published in 2016 entitled "Achievement of Weight Loss and Other Requirements of the Diabetes Prevention and Recognition Program: A National Diabetes Prevention Program Network Based on Nationally Certified Diabetes Self-management Education Programs".

The second half of the webinar will cover the 2018 Physician Payment Proposed Rule regarding Medicare proposed coverage for DPP, as well as DPP reimbursement updates.
