This CE course for Registered Nurses (RNs) on Insulin Pumps and Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) Systems offers a deep dive into the evolving landscape of diabetes technology. Additionally, the course delves into common technical issues and safety concerns such as infusion site problems, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) risk, and the importance of consistent blood glucose monitoring.

CGM systems are also covered extensively, with an emphasis on how real-time glucose data enhances patient engagement, facilitates early detection of glucose excursions, and supports proactive therapeutic adjustments. Participants will compare different CGM models, understand calibration needs, and learn how to interpret CGM trend graphs and alerts. The integration of CGM with insulin pump therapy—often referred to as sensor-augmented pump therapy—is also explored as a strategy to achieve optimal glycemic control.

This course includes guidance on patient selection for advanced diabetes technologies, covering psychosocial readiness, manual dexterity, cost and insurance considerations, and the importance of ongoing education and support. Nurses will gain confidence in counseling patients transitioning from MDI to insulin pump therapy, and from traditional blood glucose monitoring to CGM systems.
