Surgical Management of the Patient with Ulcerative Colitis is organized by Wound Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society (WOCN) and will be held during Mar 20, 2013 - Mar 20, 2020.
The target audience for this medical event is RN, Nurse Practitioners, Health Care Professionals who work with WOC patients. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 1.33 Contact Hours.
Course Description:
This session will discuss the surgical options for patients with ulcerative colitis, postoperative management, ostomy and pharmacoligcal management. The ileal pouch anal anastomosis procedure (IPAA) is often staged in 1, 2 or 3 steps depending on patient acuity, indeterminate diagnosis, or body size. Follow up management involves digital exams, diet and bowel diaries, use of medications and ongoing patient education to ensure a successful and satisfactory outcome with the IPAA procedure. The nurse will develop an awareness of IPAA complications, issues in patient management and treatment that is evidenced based.
Course Objectives are:
Upon successful completion of this educational program, the learner should be able to:
• Describe the surgical indications and options for patients with ulcerative colitis.
• Assess the potential complications and associated interventions/pharmacological treatments with an IPAA.
• Apply the recommended follow up management of patients with an IPAA.
