Description:
Point of Care Assessment of Hydration Status & Fluid Responsiveness training video is designed to provide a review of point of care ultrasound for fluid responsiveness in Shock. Case studies, clinical improvement in hemodynamics with fluid bolus, effectiveness of early goal directed therapy, IVC size as an indicator of fluid responsiveness, and direct measurement of factors that increase cardiac output are discussed.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize the usefulness of fluid bolus to improve hemodynamics.
  • Recognize the effectiveness of early goal directed therapy: fluids, CVP, and mortality.
  • Recognize the practicality of IVC size as an indicator of fluid responsiveness.
  • Outline direct measurement of factors that increase cardiac output.

Topics:

  • LV Systolic Function
  • Lung Ultrasound / Pleural Sliding
  • IVC / Respiratory Variation
  • Will My Patient Respond to Fluids?
  • Left Ventricular Filling and Function
  • IVC Distensibility Correlation with Fluid Responsiveness
  • Direct Measurement of Factors that Increase Cardiac Output: Stroke Volume, Carotid Flow
