Have you ever felt stuck regarding how to implement functional based treatments for your patients with cardiopulmonary disorders? You are not alone - the cardiopulmonary system is complex and often raises questions on how to properly manage this population. This course provides insight into the most common cardiopulmonary disorders seen by rehabilitation therapists in the acute care setting .We will discuss how to develop an evidence-based plan of care for patients with cardiac and/ or pulmonary disorders. Further, this course will touch on how to implement ADL and IADL based treatment during the acute phases of cardiopulmonary disease. This course will also discuss implications of functional mobility with an emphasis on performance outcomes. Lastly, we will discuss with role of sleep, rest, and psychological implications with this population, and how that relates to your treatment plan.

Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  1. Explain the function, structure, and associated vital parameters for the cardiopulmonary system.
  2. Identify the most common cardiopulmonary disorders referred to rehabilitation professionals.
  3. List evidence-based functional treatment strategies for your cardiopulmonary patient.
