OVERVIEW

Management of Chronic Conditions: Diabetes Types 1 & 2, Obesity, and Dyslipidemia is organized by Southern Medical Association (SMA) and will be held from Sep 04, 2018 - Sep 04, 2019. This Conference has been approved for a maximum of 1.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.

Target Audience :
This activity is intended for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and registered nurses specializing or certified in the areas of women’s health, gynecology, obstetrics, internal medicine, family or general medicine, emergency medicine, and preventive medicine.

Goald and Objectives :
There are new medications and new monitoring devices for both Type I and Type II Diabetes. An overview of the new medications, devices, and examples of their appropriate use will be presented. In addition, many patients cannot afford the new insulins and transitions from these to less expensive insulins will be discussed. There is also new data about obesity therapy with gastric balloons and surgical methods which is valuable for helping patients choose therapy. There are new guidelines in the management of dyslipidemia and new evidence-based medicine suggesting that in certain individuals with dyslipidemia more aggressive reduction in LDL-cholesterol should be achieved. Upon completion of the activity, providers should be able to:
• Recognize the place of the new devices and medications in the therapy of Diabetes;
• Evaluate a patient’s transition from expensive to lower priced insulins;
• Discuss data about the success of surgical interventions for obesity;
• Define the most recent ACC-AHA guidelines on cholesterol;
• Recognize the guidelines' implications in clinical practice.
