Southern Medical Association (SMA)

For over 100 years, SMA has been committed to multidisciplinary, interprofessional education. We were founded in 1906 as a scientific body of physicians dedicated to fostering the art and science of medicine through education. Though medicine has changed a lot since then, our mission has remained constant.

In that time, members and partners have supported that mission through membership, donations, publishing, speaking, and directing our educational programming. Thanks to their contributions, SMA has been able to create thousands of hours of education; publish more than 46,000 scientific peer-reviewed journal articles in the Southern Medical Journal; and provide more than $3.5 million in financial support through scientific research grants, loans, and scholarships.

The Southern Medical Association (SMA) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. SMA also offers MOC options for acquiring needed MOC Points.
