Early Diagnosis Saves Lives: Endocrinology Screening, Thyroid, Pituitary, Bone Diseases, and Hypertension is organized by Southern Medical Association (SMA) and will be held from Sep 04, 2018 - Sep 04, 2019. This Conference has been approved for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™

Target Audience:
This activity is intended for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and registered nurses specializing or certified in the areas of women’s health, gynecology, obstetrics, internal medicine, family or general medicine, emergency medicine, and preventive medicine.

Goals and Objectives :
Early diagnosis of certain thyroid, pituitary, and metabolic bone disorders in young women can save lives with new therapies. Some of the new medications are not well known. Illustrative cases will be used to demonstrate diagnostic and therapeutic interventions while explaining new therapies and medications.

There are new ACC-AHA guidelines on hypertension and these guidelines suggest earlier and more frequent use of fixed-dose combination pharmacologic therapy in the hypertensive individual. In addition, population-based hypertension management strategies have demonstrated the effectiveness of a simple, standardized pharmacologic hypertensive formulary and algorithm use. Upon completion of the activity, providers should be able to:
• Recognize the evaluation of the thyroid in a young woman with a positive family history of thyroid disease;
• Evaluate a young woman with low bone mineral density;
• Recognize the ACC-AHA guidelines which emphasize the clinical importance of greater and earlier use of pharmacologic fixed-dose therapy in the management of hypertension;
• Apply the evidence which demonstrates the effectiveness of using a simple and standardized pharmacologic formulary and treatment algorithm in the management of hypertension.
