  • Seizure management: Types, status epilepticus, Todd’s paralysis, and approaches to different seizure scenarios.
  • Diagnostic approach: Intracranial masses, spinal cord compression, normal pressure hydrocephalus, and VP shunt complications.

Emergency Hematology Essentials (1 hr 57 min):

  • Anemia evaluation: Interpreting CBC to differentiate types of anemia.
  • Bleeding management: Indications and contraindications for blood products (e.g., packed RBCs, plasma, platelets) and clotting factors.
  • Coagulation cascade: Physiology, PT/PTT assessment, and acquired platelet disorders (ITP, TTP, HUS, DIC, HELLP syndrome).
  • Congenital bleeding disorders: Emergency care for von Willebrand disease, hemophilias, and sickle cell complications (pain crises, acute chest syndrome, stroke

  • Bleeding management: Administering blood products with knowledge of indications and contraindications.
  • Coagulation assessment: Understanding the cascade and using PT/PTT, plus acquired platelet disorders.

  • Medication knowledge: Indications, contraindications, and side – effects of anticoagulants, antiplatelets, and fibrinolytics.

Endocrine Emergencies (1 hr 33 min):

  • Diabetes emergencies: Diagnosis and treatment of hypoglycemia, DKA, and HHNS, plus long-term complications (retinopathy, nephropathy, neuropathy).
  • Thyroid emergencies: Management of hyperthyroidism (thyrotoxicosis, thyroid storm) and hypothyroidism (myxedema coma).
  • Adrenal disorders: Recognition and treatment of adrenal crisis, primary/secondary insufficiency, and corticosteroid use during stress.
  • Other endocrine conditions: Evaluation of parathyroid disorders (hyper-/hypoparathyroidism) and alcoholic ketoacidosis.
