Conference Description :
Celiac disease is an inherited autoimmune disease affecting about 1% of the U.S. population. The only treatment for CD is lifelong adherence to a strict gluten-free diet, and because of that, dietitians and other health professionals must educate these patients. Risk factors, clinical presentation, and diagnostic methods, which have changed over the years, are an integral part of understanding and managing CD. It is critical that health professionals not only know the gluten-free diet, but are able to assist patients in preventing cross-contamination both at home and when eating out, understanding medications, and coping with a significant dietary change.

Conference Objectives are :
The goal of this celiac disease continuing education program is to teach dietitians and other health professionals what they need to know to diagnose and manage people with celiac disease and gluten intolerance. After studying the information presented here, the learner will be able to:
• Discuss the risk factors and clinical presentation of CD.
• Identify methods of diagnosing CD.
• Explain dietary management for people with CD.
