OVERVIEW

#7247 Neurologic Gait Analysis and Treatment. Part II: Lesions of the Subcortex is organized by MotivationsCEU.

Description:
The focus is on increased under-standing and application of therapeutic interventions to improve abnormal neurologic gait patterns observed from lesions in the subcortex. This course will review typical stroke lesions of the subcortex and describe resulting impairments that may be observed during gait. Using a systems approach, physical therapy practitioners will be instructed how to formulate interventions within their scope of practice and establish and or follow a plan of care to improve gait impairments. The presentation will utilize a case-based approach to demonstrate and summarize application of material. The focus is on increased under-standing and application of therapeutic interventions to improve abnormal neurologic gait patterns observed from lesions in the subcortex.

Objectives:
Upon completion of this course the participant will be able to:

  • Accurately determine areas of the subcortex given the functional anatomy
  • Precisely identify one impairment typically seen during gait based on a given subcortical lesion post-stroke
  • Independently devise and adapt therapeutic interventions related to impairments of muscle tone and weakness, sensory loss, and or spasticity impacting gait
  • Evaluate and correctly match gait impairments to subcortical lesion location seen post-stroke given a case study
