OVERVIEW

#7232 S2R: Strengthening Concepts for Stroke Recovery© is organized by MotivationsCEU.

Description:
Past research has purported interventions of constraint, intensity, and repetition as key factors to stroke recovery when there are strength or force generation deficits. Stroke recovery, however, is multifactorial that encompasses cognitive, motor, sensory, environmental, psychosocial components and most importantly lesion location and the extent of damage.

Lesion location and damage dictates stroke impairment. This course will define and differentiate strength or force generation. Furthermore, the neuroanatomical origin of strength and force generation will be discussed and how either is impacted based on lesion site.

Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  1. Distinguish strength from functional strength and force generation.
  2. Examine the role of the cerebrum, cerebellum, brainstem & spinal cord in strength/force generation.
  3. Differentiate between strength/force generation versus functional strength given a case study.
  4. Evaluate how the person, task and or environment impacts strength assessment considering the concepts of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
  5. Integrate information learned to justify treatment interventions which can be immediately applied to neurologic rehabilitation practice.
