Description:
The purpose of this course is to discuss neurologic related vision conditions in Occupational Therapy. Topics include central retinal artery occlusion, optic neuritis, cranial nerve injuries that impact vision, and visual inattention/neglect. In this introductory course therapy practitioners will be instructed on each diagnosis and how it impacts engagement in occupations.

Practitioners will also gain knowledge on selecting appropriate assessments/screening tools within their scope of practice and how to design interventions to promote independence with daily tasks.

Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

1. Identify the role of the retina, macula and fovea.
2. List common neurologic eye conditions and how they affect vision
3. Identify screening and assessment methods for eye conditions within the OT scope of practice.
4. Recognize intervention methods for vision impairments effecting ADL and IADL within the OT scope of practice
5. Name case study examples.
