Activity Description
Throughout these activities, faculty will  address current, critical issues in transplant medicine and oncology that you can apply to the management of patients and/or their benefits. Participants will hear about advances, trends and updates on relevant topics within these fields, as well as current and emerging strategies to improve patient care and outcomes.
Learning Objectives
At the end of these educational activities, participants should be able to:

  • Compare the distinct advantages and challenges of paired kidney donation and advance donor programs to traditional transplantation methods.
  • Discuss current and emerging diagnostic tools and techniques in monitoring posttransplant graft rejections, including molecular innovations.
  • Differentiate the benefits and role of normothermic regional perfusion (NRP) methods and their impact on organ preservation and patient outcomes.
  • Recognize the influence of social determinants of health (SDOH) on access to CAR T-cell therapy and patient autonomy, outcomes and experiences and discuss strategies to ensure equitable access.
  • Cite the implications of current heart-allocation policies, as well as their effect on ventricular assist device (VAD) utilization and overall transplantation outcomes.
  • Identify current and emerging gene therapies targeting hematologic disorders and hematologic cancers.
  • Describe advancements in CAR T-cell therapy for the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia.
  • Assess advancements in the development of liquid biopsy testing for early cancer detection and describe how these tests can be integrated into clinical settings.
  • Examine the broader implications of stem cell transplant advancements in treating hematologic malignancies.
  • Discuss the unique emotional challenges faced by patients and health care professionals during the final days of patients with terminal illness and review strategies for health care professionals to foster a supportive and compassionate patient environment through compassionate care that addresses the nuanced needs of these patients and their families.
