This two-hour interactive session will guide clinicians through the principles and evidence behind wheelchair prescription and posture management. Beginning with a review of core literature and pre-work, we will clarify key concepts, then move into practical assessment strategies such as the mat exam, differential prescription decisions between modular and custom seating, and ways to anticipate and prevent common postural complications. Case studies will bridge theory and practice, and the course will conclude with reflection, discussion, and actionable take-home strategies to support long-term postural health in wheelchair users. Course instruction method includes: Lecture, case studies, question/answers.

Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

1. Understand and interpret a comprehensive mat and seated assessment (including range of motion, tone, pelvic alignment, and postural tendencies) to guide seating decisions.
2. Compare and select seating and support strategies (modular, custom contoured, tilt/recline, lateral supports, etc.) matched to individual user parameters to optimize alignment and function.
3. Identify and proactively address common postural complications (e.g. pelvic obliquity, rotation, scoliosis, kyphosis) through prevention strategies and ongoing reassessment.
