OVERVIEW

2017 Revision of the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support is organized by American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE).

The target audience for this medical event is knowledge-based activities designed for individual or groups of diabetes educators, including RNs, RDs, Pharmacists, Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Physician Assistants, MDs, and other health care providers interested in staying up to date on current practices of care for their patients with diabetes and other related conditions. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 1.5 contact hours of continuing education credits.

Course Description:
The Revised National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support will be presented along with the review process undertaken by the national workgroup. Common misconceptions about the standards will be highlighted when they are integrated into practice.

Course Objectives:
• Identify the timeline for DSMES programs to start following the 2017 Standards
• Describe the review process used to update the standards
• List 3 changes incorporated into the 2017 standards
• Describe one myth about the implementation of the national standards
