OVERVIEW

Gastroenterology Seminar is organized by American Seminar Institute (ASI).

Course Expires for Credit: 08/20/25

Description:
Series 55 (GI55):Advanced Liver Disease Risks; Closure of Gastrointestinal Perforations; Management Goals in PVT; and more!
Highlights include management of drug-induced AIH; grade cases of ACLF; systemic agents for management of hepatocellular carcinoma; and more.

Course Topics:
Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease/Alcohol-related Liver Disease
• Identify individuals at risk of developing advanced liver diseases; Recommend lifestyle changes and weight loss for managing nonalcoholic liver disease; Choose among available medications for nonalcoholic steatohepatitis; Select appropriate testing modalities for the detection of AUD in patients with alcoholic liver disease; Compare the risks and benefits of various relapse prevention medications for use in patients with AUD.

Autoimmune Hepatitis/Vascular Disorders of the Liver
• Optimize management of drug-induced AIH; Cite management guidelines for administration of medication in AIH; Compare use of tacrolimus with mycophenolate mofetil in treatment of AIH; Manage vascular diseases of the liver in patients with cirrhosis; Explain guidance recommendations from the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases regarding optimization of platelet levels to decrease bleeding risk during procedures.

Endoscopic Complications/Transgender Health/equity for Women in Gastroenterology
• Achieve hemostasis if bleeding develops during an endoscopic procedure; Choose an appropriate device for closure of gastrointestinal perforations; Use appropriate language for addressing transgender patients; Recognize risks associated with gender-affirming hormone therapy; Implement solutions to disparities between men and women in academic medicine.

Artificial Intelligence in IBD/Acute-on-chronic Liver Failure
• Elaborate on the clinical uses and functions of AI in inflammatory bowel disease; Incorporate AI into the assessment and imaging for inflammatory bowel disease; Recognize the importance of machine learning in electronic medical record systems; Grade cases of ACLF based on mortality associated with organ failures; Identify risk factors that predispose to ACLF.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease/Portal Venous Thrombosis
• List sources of routinely collected health data in epidemiologic studies; Optimize use of antibiotics in management of early-onset IBD; Explain association of environment risk factors and onset of IBD; Identify the appropriate imaging modalities used in the diagnosis of PVT; Cite the management goals in PVT.

Ascites/liver Cancer/abstract Review
• Review the pathophysiology of development of ascites and renal dysfunction in patients with liver disease; Assess current techniques for management of ascites in patients with liver disease; Select appropriate systemic agents that are currently available for management of hepatocellular carcinoma; Implement updated practice guidelines for systemic therapy of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma; Evaluate new cutting-edge technologies and updated guidelines for diagnosis and management of liver disease.

Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt/pancreatic Cancer
• Identify patients who are eligible to receive TIPS; Predict the risk for complications from TIPS with diagnostic testing; Choose medications to prevent hepatic encephalopathy; Use computed tomography to assess patients suspected of PC; Provide the opportunity to undergo surgical resection to more patients.

Barrett Esophagus/Foreign Bodies/Pelvic Floor Disorders
• Use the Seattle Protocol to guide biopsy collection in BE; List the American College of Gastroenterology guidelines for screening of BE; Enumerate complications after radiofrequency ablation in BE; Cite indications for emergent endoscopy in management of ingested foreign bodies; Explain the symptoms and etiology of functional defecatory disorders.

Liver/Endoscopic Ultrasonography
• Compare and contrast machine perfusion with other procedures for organ preservation; Choose the best approach for preservation of donation after circulatory death allografts; Advise patients on the risks and benefits of transplantation of organs from HCV-positive donors; Devise antiviral regimens based on patients? hepatitis C genotype; Select a procedure for bile duct drainage in patients ineligible for surgery

Liver Transplantation Update
• Review recent updates to the regulatory structure and framework for organ transplantation; Determine patient eligibility for liver transplantation; Develop strategies to expand the donor pool of organs; Describe current strategies used to reduce disparity in the allocation of organs for transplantation; Summarize the benefits and risks associated with use of liver transplants from living donors, donors after circulatory death, and increased risk donors
