Inflammatory bowel disorders (IBD) comprise two major phenotypes, Crohn's Disease (CD) as well as ulcerative colitis (UC). Despite the advancements in treatments for IBD, disease-related or IBD surgical complications (such as fistulas and strictures) are quite common. Treatment for IBD (also known as therapeutic endoscopy) has expanded its role in treating illness and surgical complications. Endoscopic therapy is more efficient than medical treatments and is more invasive than surgery to manage IBD-related structural issues. Endoscopic therapy has been studied and utilized to treat fistulas, strictures, colitis-related neoplasia, post-surgical leaks or chronic obstructions. The therapies offered through endoscopic comprise balloon dilation, stricturotomy stricturoplasty, stent placement fistulotomy, fistula injections and cutting, sinusotomy, mucosal resection, and an endoscopic submucosal dissection. With a better understanding of the course of disease in IBD, the long-term effects of medical treatment, and advances in the field of endoscopic technology, we can anticipate that interventions in IBD become an integral component of the multidisciplinary approach for patients suffering from complex IBD. The symposium is an initiative between Columbia University Irving Medical Center, NewYork Presbyterian Hospital, and the Global Interventional IBD Group. The CME-accreted event will be using "the Columbia Interventional IBD Symposium" as its logo starting from today. It will be a full-day Zoom-based conference from January 14-15, 2022.
