Udayakumar Navaneethan MD, FACG, FASGE

Udayakumar Navaneethan, MD, is a board-certified gastroenterologist who treats complex digestive disorders at the Orlando Health Digestive Health Institute Center for Advanced Endoscopy, Research & Education and Center for Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

Dr. Navaneethan earned his medical degree from Madras Medical College in India and completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at the University Hospital/University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society during his residency and pursued fellowships in gastroenterology, IBD and advanced endoscopy at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.

Dr. Navaneethan currently is the principal investigator for multiple IBD-related clinical trials and studies focusing on medical and endoscopic management of complex IBD, chromoendoscopy for early diagnosis of colon cancer in IBD, primary sclerosing cholangitis and new medications for IBD. He has presented more than 100 research study abstracts and authored more than 240 peer-reviewed manuscripts and several book chapters focused on the endoscopic management of IBD. He sits on the editorial board of the Inflammatory Bowel Diseases journal and is the associate editor of BMC Gastroenterology.

He was one of the founding members of the Global Interventional IBD group and the special interest group in interventional IBD in the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Dr. Navaneethan is a member of the American Gastroenterology Association and Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation Florida Chapter, where he is on the medical advisory committee and chair of the professional education committee. He also is a fellow of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the American College of Gastroenterology.
