Clinicians that work with pain and neurologic conditions in their practice.

Description:
This is a Virtual Seminar to increase understanding of pain management by improving systemss in the body. We will also look at neurologic inflammation as it relates to conditions such as anxiety, depression and pain.

Nutritionists can also attend this summit, can not be awarded any CME credits.

Presentation Description:
This lecture is designed to discuss the brain, neurological function, and various environmental components that can impact brain function and its ability to thrive. Multiple models of treatment paradigms will be discussed, including mitochondrial function, the excitotoxic model, genetic components related to various disease-causing protein miss foldings, neurological plasticity, cytokines, and epigenetic components related to inflammation neurotransmitters, and metabolic aspects of human physiology.

The literature will be reviewed related to brain and immunity and the epidemiology of inflammation, and how it relates to the overall mortality and morbidity of various diseases that humans encounter. The lecture discusses the mechanisms of neurological plasticity and various components that alter the ability to have appropriate gene expression and mitochondrial function, leading to synaptic connectivity and appropriate neural connections.

The inherent complexity and personal experience of pain lends itself to an integrative and lifestyle medicine treatment approach. Only a true understanding of the pain paradox paired with a complete interview and examination of the patient allows for the necessary knowledge base to form an effective treatment plan. Patient willingness to participate in this non-pharmaceutical and multifaceted approach is key to positive outcomes and true healing.

The presenter will discuss the definition of pain, how to conduct a history and exam then share safe and effective interventional procedures and therapeutic approaches proven to be highly effective in his 30 years of physiatry practice.
