Forensic Social Work Certificate Program: Foundation Skills for Forensic Social Work 2024 is organized by National Organization of Forensic Social Work (NOFSW) and will be held from Oct 08 - 09, 2024.

Learning Objectives:
• Identify the topics deemed foundational to sound forensic social work knowledge
• Cite a summary of the history of the field of forensic social work with special attention to the crosscultural nature of social work and the law
• Examine the court context of forensic social work practice, focusing on criminal, consultant and child welfare examples
• Identify mental health and addiction intervention factors and their factors on the transitioning back into the community, highlighting unique and special challenges
• Examine the socio-political factors directing children to the Juvenile Justice System including a critical examination of racial disparities and how these play out at crucial decision points for youth and adolescents
• Describe a step-by-step approach to the forensic social worker's role in sentencing advocacy, translating core social work skills into the special needs for working effectively with a defense team
• Explain the significant benefit of law enforcement to the variety of forensic of forensic social work functions including working with domestic violence, child protection and dependent and older adult protection
