Description:
The purpose of this course is to provide detailed information of why and what you should feed a child from a nutritional standpoint to support gut and brain health, and the how to, for providing professional intervention to improve tolerance, acceptance, and increase food consumption. Feeding therapists will be instructed on how to discuss these elements within their scope of practice and utilize intervention to create a feeding program utilizing best practice and evidence-based research. Course instruction methods include lecture, demonstration, case studies, question/answers.

Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to

  1. Correctly identify underlying conditions impacting brain gut connection and feeding behaviors
  2. Identify various avenues to heal the gut and improve cognitive functions and behavior
  3. Name the role of nutrition for picky eaters, as well as common causes, the most common nutritional deficits, and food and supplementation sources to combat these deficits
  4. Identify and implement specific strategies to overcome causes of nutritional deficit
  5. Define intervention strategies to increase nutritional intake and overall tolerance and acceptance of a variety of foods.
  6. List provided resources to explore product recommendations and highlighted research topics to provide education and support to clients
