#7206 Ataxia Unpacked: Comprehensive Evaluation and Evidence-Based Treatment Strategies is organized by MotivationsCEU and will be held on Jul 23, 2026.
Description:
This continuing education course provides a comprehensive, evidence-based overview of the evaluation and treatment of individuals with ataxia. Participants will review the underlying causes and types of ataxia, including sensory, vestibular, and cerebellar presentations, and examine how these impairments affect balance, gait, coordination, and functional performance. Emphasis is placed on standardized assessment tools, motor learning considerations, and current evidence supporting rehabilitation interventions. Video case studies are used throughout the course to facilitate clinical reasoning, highlight functional limitations, and demonstrate treatment strategies targeting gait, postural control, and activities of daily living (ADLs). Participants will leave with practical strategies to improve safety, functional independence, and participation for individuals with ataxia across clinical settings.
Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
1. Integrate functional mobility and activities of daily living (ADLs) into treatment planning using task-specific practice, assistive devices, and adaptive strategies to improve safety, participation, and independence.
2. Differentiate sensory, vestibular, and cerebellar ataxia and select appropriate standardized outcome measures to evaluate impairments, activity limitations, and functional performance.
3. Apply evidence-based motor learning principles to design and progress individualized interventionsaddressing trunk, extremity, and gait ataxia.
4. Integrate functional mobility and activities of daily living (ADLs) into treatment planning using task-specific practice, assistive devices, and adaptive strategies to improve safety, participation, and independence.
