Description:
This webinar will introduce the concept and use of taping and wrapping as an adjunct to therapeutic interventions in the treatment of adults and children with neurologic and orthopedic impairments. The course will introduce the use of static and dynamic taping techniques to facilitate improved alignment and muscle reeducation for function. Materials discussed include: rigid strapping tape, elastic therapeutic tape, and neoprene wraps. The course is intended to familiarize participants in the use of these modalities as an adjunct to treatment and to guide interest for future coursework and learning opportunities.

Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  1. Identify the importance of optimizing alignment for support and initiation of movement for a child or an adult with neuromotor impairment
  2. Name the following taping materials: rigid tape, elastic therapeutic tape, neoprene wraps/fabrifoam, and orthotics
  3. Identify the principles of taping and strapping as an adjunct to treatment
  4. Identify contraindications and precautions for taping children and adults with neuromuscular impairments
  5. List tape application guidelines, skin care and tape removal
  6. Chose two taping and wrapping techniques and reason for use in a child or an adult with neuromotor impairment
  7. Select the appropriate use of taping, strapping and wrapping to improve neuromuscular reeducation through alignment in functional activities for activities, such as dressing and play.

This is a 3-hour course equivalent to 3 CEU's or 0.3 CEUs offered as a live webinar or self-study.
