Journal CME/HeartRhythm Vol. 14, Issue 7:Predicting Determinants of Atrial Fibrillation or Flutter for Therapy Elucidation in Patients at Risk for Thromboembolic Events (PREDATE AF) is organized by Heart Rhythm Society (HRS) and will be held from Jun 15, 2017 - Jun 23, 2019.
The target audience for this medical event is all professionals who participate in the care and management of heart rhythm disorders. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit.
Course Description:
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common clinically significant cardiac rhythm disorder. There is considerable interest in screening for AF, as it is a leading cause of stroke, and oral anticoagulants (OACs) have been shown to significantly reduce the risk of stroke in patients with AF. Improved screening for AF with subsequent treatment may help improve long-term outcomes, but the optimal patient population and screening intensity are unknown. In this study, we prospectively evaluated the use of the CHA2DS2-VASc score for the prediction of new-onset AF using insertable cardiac monitors (ICMs) and examined whether this screening led to the initiation of OAC therapy.
Learning Objectives:
• Define the incidence of atrial fibrillation in a population with a CHA2DS2-VASc score ≥2 when screened with an insertable cardiac monitor (ICM).
• Describe the use of anticoagulation in a screened population found to have atrial fibrillation.
• Describe the characteristics of atrial fibrillation found in a population screened with ICMs. Identify component(s) of the CHA2DS2-VASc score predictive of incident atrial fibrillation.
Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.
