Statement of Need:
The increasing number of acutely ill pediatric patients presenting to Emergency Departments and offices requires that clinicians be prepared to assess, diagnose, and expertly treat a wide variety of pediatric emergencies. Diagnostic and therapeutic practices continue to evolve, and patient care recommendations and guidelines continue to improve.
Learning Objectives:
After participating in this activity clinicians should be able to:
• Evaluate factors that may mitigate the risk of missed diagnosis in appendicitis.
• Develop strategies to evaluate and treat pediatric patients presenting with various conditions in the emergency department.
• Determine risk factors for medication errors and utilize interventions to reduce their incidence.
