Dr. Robert A. Belfer is a highly experienced Pediatric Emergency Medicine physician at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), serving both the Main Hospital in Philadelphia and the CHOP at Virtua Voorhees site in New Jersey. He also holds the academic rank of Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, where he contributes to the education and training of future pediatric emergency medicine specialists.

Dr. Belfer is board-certified in Pediatric Emergency Medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics and has practiced in this subspecialty for several decades. His clinical expertise focuses on the acute care of infants, children, and adolescents presenting with urgent and complex medical conditions.

He earned his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and completed both his pediatric residency and fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

In addition to his clinical and teaching roles, Dr. Belfer is actively involved in hospital leadership and professional committees, including long-standing service on various executive and steering committees at Virtua Health and CHOP. He was recognized as one of South Jersey Magazine’s “Top Docs in Emergency Medicine” in 2022.

Dr. Belfer also serves as host of the CHOP Pediatric Emergency Medicine Podcast, a program designed to educate and inform clinicians and the public about key developments in pediatric emergency care.
