Course Description:
Based on our cumulative experience of encountering problematic genitourinary pathology cases and questions posed by other pathology colleagues over our careers, there is consistent theme of problematic tumors/lesions submitting for formal consultation/second opinion. Here, we aim to offer a “crash-course” groundwork of how we handle such consultation cases, particularly relevant to those who are not as up-to-date with current issues in diagnostic terminology and relevance to clinical management.

Learning Objectives:

• Recognize common diagnostic pitfalls and potential sources of interpretive error in kidney, bladder, prostate, penile, and adrenal pathology.
• Appreciate subtle histologic clues to resolve key differential diagnoses in kidney, bladder, prostate, penis, and adrenal cancer specimens.
• Learn when and how to integrate clinical findings and ancillary tests with key cytomorphologic features in precise cytologic diagnosis of lesions from these sites.
• Understand clinically relevant staging parameters and develop diagnostic thresholds for pathologic staging of kidney, bladder, prostate, and penis, and adrenal cancer resections.

During the 30-minute Slide Preview session, glass slides are reviewed at the individual microscopes. Participants receive 90 seconds to preview the slide, and then it is passed to the next attendee. Each slide preview session has up to 18 cases. After the Slide Preview, attendees move from the individual microscopes to the multiheaded teaching microscope to start the Case Discussion.
