Working with Challenging Patients & Families: Maximizing Your Clinical Effectiveness is organized by The REACH Institute and will be held on Sep 21, 2019 at New York State Psychiatric Institute, New York City, New York, United States of America.

Through this interactive, hands-on workshop, you will:
• Identify the common barriers to effective clinician-patient/caregiver communication about child mental health
• Increase your knowledge of the communication skills necessary for effective patient/caregiver engagement.
• Learn a process for shared decision-making with pediatric patients and their caregivers

As a primary care provider, you face special challenges engaging patients and families when emotional and behavioral difficulties are present. Learning new strategies to work with difficult-to-treat patients will enhance your clinical effectiveness, improve your patient outcomes, decrease unnecessary medical procedures, and reduce your costs of care.

Using evidence-based, hands-on training strategies with many opportunities for observation and practice, this workshop will give you enhanced skills and confidence working with challenging patients and families with behavioral health concerns. Small group exercises will be co-facilitated by experienced mental health and primary care clinicians. You will learn new, effective methods to build patient trust and engagement, and enlist challenging patients and families as partners in their care and treatment.
