2nd Interdisciplinary Opioid Crisis Seminar

2nd Interdisciplinary Opioid Crisis Seminar is organized by The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and will be held on May 03, 2019 at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas, United States of America.

Target Audience
All health care providers involved in the care of patients receiving opioid therapy including medical oncologists, pain and palliative care physicians, emergency room physicians, primary care physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, advanced practice providers (APPs), pharmacists, registered nurses, social workers, case managers, and clinical leaders. This activity is not targeted for pharmacy technician education.

Accreditation/Credit Designation
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center designates this live activity for a maximum of 8.50 AMA PRA Category 1CreditsTM.  Physicians should claim only credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Ethics
The session entitled, Medical Ethics, has been designated by The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center for 0.75 AMA PRA Category CreditsTM in medical ethics and/or professional responsibility.

Goal
In the wake of the recent opioid crisis, the medical community and other stakeholders continue to seek new ways to promote safe and effective practices in order to mitigate the issue. The cause of the opioid epidemic is multifaceted including a significant proportion from prescribed opioids. A positive change in healthcare provider behavior is therefore needed to help improve the current state of affairs.

The 2nd Opioid Crisis Seminar will offer essential up-to-date information regarding opioid utilization and its associated clinical, public health, and legal ramifications as well as provide practical solutions to address such issues and improve patient outcomes. The ultimate goal is to improve provider knowledge and competence regarding the use of opioids and ensure patient safety. Participants from last year’s seminar described it as highly beneficial. Based on their useful feedback, we have made further key changes this year in order to make it an even more meaningful educational experience.

After attending the conference, participants should be able to:
