Dr. Akhila S. Reddy is an Associate Professor of Palliative, Rehabilitation, & Integrative Medicine with research interests in opioids, opioid-induced neurotoxicity, and pain management in cancer patients. She is also the Medical Director of the Supportive Care Center. She previously served as Assistant Director of MD Anderson’s Palliative Medicine fellowship program. She earned her medical degree from Sri Siddhartha Medical College and pursued residency in family practice through Austin Medical Educational Programs.

Dr. Reddy completed her fellowship in Palliative Medicine at MD Anderson and joined as faculty in 2010. She has contributed to over 40 publications as author or co-author on topics including safe and effective methods for opioid rotation in cancer patients and cancer pain management. Dr. Reddy's research has yielded new, safe, and effective opioid rotation and conversion ratios that are now widely used for switching from one opioid to another. She also co-edited a popular book “50 Studies Every Palliative Care Doctor Should Know” and additionally also contributed to various book chapters. She is frequently invited to present at various national and international Pain and Palliative Care conferences. She is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and the American Board of Family Medicine in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
