Course Description:
The Respectful & Equitable Access to Comprehensive Healthcare (REACH) Program is hosting this working conference to address the role of primary care in addressing the opioid crisis in New York State. The conference will provide an overview of current and planned initiatives across the city and state, as well as foster new collaborations.
The REACH Program provides a patient-centred, harm reduction approach to primary care for persons who use alcohol and other drugs and for individuals living with Hepatitis C virus infection.
Course Objectives:
• Describe epidemiologic trends in overdose deaths related to opioids at the state and city level in New York and their impact on drug user health
• Identify current barriers in and stigma associated with implementing drug user health in primary care and methods to address such barriers and stigma
• Identify key stakeholders and community health partners in New York State working to address the opioid epidemic and develop collaborative strategies to improve and expand opioid use disorder treatment in primary care
• Describe innovative models of care delivery in drug user health in New York State and how they intersect with primary care to expand access to care and opioid use disorder treatment
