The Future Fertility of Women Cancer Survivors Course 2018

The Future Fertility of Women Cancer Survivors Course is organized by European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) and will be held during May 03 - 05, 2018 at Radisson Blu Iveria Hotel, Tbilisi, Tbilisi, Georgia. The target audience for this medical event is Medical doctors (gynecologists, oncologists, pediatric oncologists), psychologists, nurses, lab technicians) embryologists, cryobiologists.

Conference Description:
The enormous success of cancer treatment has resulted in a substantial increase in survival rates. As a result, it has become increasingly necessary to develop opportunities for all survivors to preserve their fertility. This Campus course will focus specifically on those women and young girls at risk of premature ovarian failure following gonadotoxic treatment (such as chemotherapy), the risk/benefit balance of using different strategic approaches depending on urgency, and the effectiveness of techniques such as transplantation of frozen­thawed ovarian tissue. The course will discuss more recent techniques, such as in vitro maturation for urgent cases, and other approaches which are still at the more experimental phase but which appear promising tools to avoid the re-implantation of malignant ovarian cells. There will be debates on the ethical issues raised by this revolution of reproduction in oncofertility and surrogacy, and discussion of the preferences and well-being of oncology patients in relation to their fertility.

Conference Objectives:
• To review the different fertility preservation strategies now available for women diagnosed with cancer
• To stimulate communication between fertility specialists and oncologists
• To exchange new ideas and new evidence for fertility preservation, so adding to the exciting collaborative work in this continuously developing field

Educational needs and expected outcomes:
The subject of this course are those women and female children diagnosed with cancer who can benefit from fertility preservation. The course will be pragmatic and practical, describing how to develop cryobiological platforms in a multidisciplinary manner and how to use the different strategical approaches depending on the gonadotoxic urgency.

Specifically, the experts will discuss:
• the gonadotoxicity levels of oncologic treatments and their effect on reproduction recovery strategies applied in relation to specific patient ages and conditions
• the risk / benefit balance of employing such methodologies
• the ethical issues raised by treatment of choice, such as the risk of re-implanting malignant cells
• those techniques which have already proved effective
• the systems that are at a more experimental phase of development but which are promising for the near future
