UCSF CME: Technology, Innovation, and Personalized Care in Head and Neck Cancer 2018 is organized by The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Office of Continuing Medical Education and will be held from Nov 30 - Dec 01, 2018 at JW Marriott San Francisco Union Square, San Francisco, California, United States of America.
The target audience for this medical event is otolaryngologists/ head and neck surgeons, regardless of their practice setting. The course also will be of interest to general surgeons, endocrinologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, advanced healthcare providers, and speech-language pathologists. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 15.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.
Course Description:
This two-day course will provide a comprehensive update on new technologies and clinical advances in head and neck cancer treatment and head and neck endocrine surgery.
Course Objectives :
We specifically anticipate improvements in skills and strategies to:
• Evaluate the delivery of cancer care, future of clinical trials and quality metrics in the US
• Be facile with the new staging system and how that integrates with each subsite in the head and neck
• Provide up-to-date, guideline-specific cancer care and surveillance
• Appreciate the relevant mechanisms in immunotherapy as well as understand the role of immunotherapy in head and neck cancer treatment
• Treat HPV-related oropharynx and unknown primary cancers and counsel patients on this disease
• Determine minimally-invasive surgical and non-surgical treatment options for oropharynx and larynx cancers, including immunotherapy
• Visualize oral lesions and appropriately manage them
• Incorporate dental care and reconstruction in head and neck cancer patients
• Present options for early laryngeal cancer management as well as salvage laryngectomy and voice rehabilitation
• Grasp the approach, decision-making, reconstruction, and outcomes in skull base surgery
• Optimize the evaluation and treatment of benign and malignant thyroid diseases and large goiters, including the use of ultrasound in the clinic and novel robotic approaches
• Interpret the nuances of molecular testing in papillary thyroid carcinoma;
• Determine the diagnosis and localization of parathyroid tumors in the reoperative setting
• Improve management of early thyroid cancer
• Treat skin cancers from the early non-surgical phase up to aggressive local or metastatic disease and discuss when to add in sentinel node biopsy in the workup of cutaneous malignancy
• Understand the role of multidisciplinary care and education for patients and caregivers undergoing multimodality treatment.
