Marika D. Russell, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the division of General Otolaryngology at the University of California, San Francisco’s Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery (OHNS). She received her medical degree from Columbia University in New York, and she completed both a one-year General Surgery internship and a residency in Otolaryngology at UCSF. Dr. Russell is the Medical Director for surgical specialties at the San Francisco General Hospital, and she is an attending clinical physician in SFGH’s OHNS clinical section. Her clinical area of expertise is in thyroid surgery, including surgeon-performed ultrasound.

Dr. Russell’s current research interests include outcomes and disparities studies, and she believes that her location is an excellent opportunity to perform these types of investigations. Various research projects include patient factors related to OR cancellations, clinical efficiency in the OR setting, disparities in access to hearing aids, disparities in perioperative patient/family communication, and outcomes in the head and neck of cancer patients in safety-net setting.

Dr. Russell is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha, the American Academy of OHNS, the American Rhinologic Society, the American Head and Neck Society, and Fellowship to the American College of Surgeons. She is also a peer reviewer for the scientific journal, Laryngoscope.
