Course Description : -
This course will focus on the assessment and treatment of pediatric oral motor skills. It will look at the development of feeding skills and the impact that tone, strength and range have on the feeding success. Feeding and nippling skills will be investigated from a mechanical standpoint and the relationship that mechanical skill deficits have to behavioural and sensory issues will be explored. The course will be primarily lecture format with various "hands-on" activities placed throughout the lecture.
As a result of the course attendees will:
• identify how tone, range and strength impacts the development of all oral intake skills.
• to look at how oral aversions may be developed due to a lack of understanding of underlying motor issues
• develop treatment plans to address oral intake deficits and to progress the oral intake of their clients.
