OVERVIEW
Advanced Techniques in Management of Soft Tissue Deformities with Cadaveric Specimens is organized by AO North America and will be held from Aug 10 - 12, 2018 at USF Health, CAMLS, Tampa, Florida, United States of America.
The target audience for this medical event is Practicing surgeons with at least one year of experience and active fellows who deal with musculoskeletal head and neck disorders concerning trauma, reconstruction, as well as congenital and acquired deformities of the craniofacial skeleton. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 22.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.
Course Description:
Topics of the course will be taught in three main ways. Lectures will concentrate on the introduction of core material. Small group discussions will be case-based and will be used to elaborate on the core content introduced through lectures. Practical sessions performed on cadaveric specimens will teach common surgical approaches, soft tissue handling and reconstruction, and incision closure techniques. Discussions will be held throughout the course to link the lecture material and practical skills taught with the problems encountered by the course participants in their individual practice.
Educational Event Objectives:
After the course, participants should be able to:
• Understand the challenges and limitations in management of the soft tissue envelop
• Discuss the current treatment options for common complications resulting from standard incisions used to access the craniofacial skeleton
• Know the current state of the art approaches to the craniofacial skeleton including tips and tricks in order to prevent and reduce post-operative complications
• Understand the current treatment options for managing scar contracture and soft tissue deformity of the facial complex
• Demonstrate the skills necessary to expose the craniofacial skeleton and perform standard soft tissue procedures
Learner Objectives :
Upon completion, participants should be able to:
• Display current knowledge regarding surgical planning regarding soft tissue care and treatment of soft tissue injuries in the Craniomaxillofacial surgical patient
• Identify appropriate applications for pre-surgical planning and intra-operative management for treatment of traumatic, avulsive tissue-loss injuries
• Demonstrate the psychomotor skills necessary to perform both pre-surgical planning and intra-operative techniques including mobilization of soft tissues to adequately reconstruct avulsive soft tissue defects in the craniomaxillofacial surgical patient
• Evaluate the problems, complications and intra-operative difficulties that can result from the application of these approaches
