Course Description :
Our 6th Annual Fall Conference on Current Concepts in Neonatal Care will present an array of topics pertinent to health care professionals who care for the tiniest and most fragile of infants. Interventions and technologies continue to change in this field and those involved need current, evidence-based, and practical information to provide optimal care. Updates in nutrition; Cytomegalovirus (CMV) transmission; delayed cord clamping; pulmonary hypertension; neonatal jaundice; as well as many other key issues in neonatal care will be discussed. The goal of this conference is to increase the knowledge and enhance the competence of attendees. Emphasis will be placed on practical application of the evidence-based topics presented.

Topics for this year’s conference have been selected based on the educational needs determined from the identified professional practice gaps. The gaps were derived from a variety of sources including evaluations and outcomes data from past participants; clinical expert input; Symposia Medicus’ online survey; and other medical and nursing data.

The conference format will include didactic lectures, smaller group breakout and interactive sessions, case studies, and question and answer sessions.

An outstanding faculty has been assembled for this conference. Each member was selected based on their individual area of expertise and ability to communicate current, evidence-based, and practical information to participants.

Conference Objectives are:
• Explain the common genetic causes of severe hemolytic jaundice
• Describe the three critical changes from fetal to postnatal circulation
• Examine transfusion support and blood product utilization in neonatal extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)
• Identify the benefits of delayed cord clamping and cord milking
