Bradley Yoder, MD is the August L (Larry) Jung Presidential Endowed Chair of Neonatology and Professor of Pediatrics. Dr. Yoder is involved in a wide range of clinical and laboratory research activities, including quality/outcome improvement programs, all aimed at improving the survival and overall outcome of extremely preterm infants.
Dr. Yoder serves as the Principal Investigtor for the 5 NICU's cooperating as the Utah Center in the NICHD Neonatal Research Network. Dr. Yoder's areas of expertise include invasive and non-invasive repsiratory support of the extremely preterm infant, including high frequency ventilation, as well as other respiratory disorders of the newborn including meconium aspiration and congenital diaphragmatic hernia. Recent studies have included randomized trials comparing CPAP to early intubation plus surfactant in ELGAN's, CPAP to NIPPV for the prevention of BPD, the benefit and risks of CPAP versus HHFNC, and the effect of inhaled NO for prevention of BPD in ELGAN’s.
In addition to active trials of the Neonatal Research Network he is involved in a variety of studies evaluating early prediction of survival, the appropriate timing for repair, and the use of milrinone in neonates with congenital diaphragmatic hernia. Dr. Yoder is also very interested in the epidemiology of respiratory disorders among all gestations, including bronchopulmonary dyplasia and in late-preterm infants, as well as the epidemiological factors contributing to late-preterm births. Several of these clinical research interests carry over into translational research work underway in the preterm lamb laboratory of Dr. Kurt Albertine.
